METALLICA Drummer Interviewed On Syracuse's 95X

Joe D. of the Syracuse, New York radio station WAQX-FM 95.7 (95X) conducted an interview with METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich when the band played Albany on November 12. Watch the chat below.

METALLICA was recently named the fourth best-selling musical act of the SoundScan era of electronic sales tracking, which began in May 1991 and continues until today. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the band has sold 52 million albums in the U.S. during that period, behind only GARTH BROOKS, THE BEATLES and MARIAH CAREY. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers' self-titled 1991 effort, also known as "the black album," was the top-selling CD of the past 19 years, with more than 15 million copies sold.

METALLICA also came in fourth on the list of top-selling vinyl for 2009, moving more than 30,000 copies of their music on 12-inch plastic.

Even with the amount of records they've sold through the traditional music business, METALLICA has not yet announced what its future plans are now that the group's contract with Warner Music is done. Frontman James Hetfield told The Pulse of Radio that the band has yet to give it much thought. "It's kind of a good feeling to feel that you're free from any piece of paper that binds you to something," he said. "But over our career, we've learned a lot about record companies, the goods and evils of the business and this and that, and we're not very focused on that right now. It is what it is, and when it becomes time for us to either renegotiate or shop around or do things ourselves or something like that, we don't know. There's nothing but options, which is great."
